LEARN MORE ABOUT ENGINEREED SURFACES
Q™ MARBLE LOOK ENGINEREED SURFACES COMPARED TO MARBLE
If you’re looking for a material that’s as timeless and classic as marble, look no further. Q is an engineered surface that looks just like it—but with added strength and resilience.
Marble has always been one of the most popular countertop options because of its creamy composure and soft luminosity. However, it’s also among the softest natural stone options used for countertops, rating at just 3-5 on the Mohs hardness scale. And Marble will require regular resealing to prevent staining and ensure longevity. Q Marble Look Surfaces feature a 7-8 Mohs hardness which offers greater strength and resilience than marble while still offering that same creamy appearance.
CONCRETE VS. CONCRETE LOOK SURFACES
Concrete is a mixture of water, cement, and an aggregate of sand or gravel. Concrete countertops’ costs are similar to engineered surfaces in looks, but they don’t compare in terms of quality. Real concrete countertops are porous, which means they absorb liquids and stain easily. They also require sealing and resealing every few years.
Q's Concrete Looks does not absorb liquids and stains, and it doesn’t require sealing, polishing, or reconditioning.
When Q countertops are purchased from reputable companies and retailers, they are installed in a smooth, expert process by professionals.
HOW DO Q™ COUNTERTOPS COMPARE TO GRANITE?
If you’re looking for a countertop that will be as beautiful, durable, and easy to maintain as granite, Q Granite Looks might be what you’re looking for.
Q features designs that are made to mimic the look of granite. Q is stronger than solid granite, which is rated at 6-7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Q features a 7-8 Mohs hardness which offers greater strength.
This means Q offers the same strength and durability as some of the hardest natural stone used for counters and other surfaces in the home. Unlike granite, however, Q is nonporous and requires no sealing to maintain its beauty and integrity.

For everyday cleaning, use a soft sponge or dishcloth with warm water. For stubborn or greasy clean-ups, use a gentle liquid cleaner or ordinary dishwashing detergent with warm water and a dishcloth or light cleansing hand pad. No counter surface is entirely immune to the effects of extreme temperatures, and manufacturers always recommend using protection, such as a hot pad or trivet, when placing extremely hot pots or pans on the counter.
Q™ can reliably withstand temperatures up to about 300°F without scorching. However, high heat could affect the resin content of the slab, potentially causing discoloration, so it’s always best to protect engineered surfaces from heat. Learn more about Q™ heat resistance. One of the most appealing characteristics of engineered Q is how resistant it is to stain. While porous stone like granite and marble must be resealed regularly to prevent the possibility of staining, Q™ is a nonporous surface that can hold up to known staining agents like coffee, tea, juice, pasta sauce, and more, with almost no maintenance required. Learn more about why Q™ is stain resistant but not stain proof.
Engineered Q is among the most food-safe surfaces available. While natural stone needs regular sealing to maintain protection against stains and microbes seeping into the surface, Q is nonporous, preventing both staining and microbial growth. Q™ is non-toxic and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) as meeting standards for food safety and sanitation. It is also Kosher certified. Learn more about why Q is considered sanitary and how to keep your Q countertop hygienic.
